Fear places unending limitations on our everyday life. Far too often, we allow our lives to sit sedentary simply because we have a fear of the unknown. We become comfortable with the routine our life possesses, and we fail to see how we could be expanding our lifestyle. It is important to live life at your own pace, but don’t let that pace fail to ever accelerate and experience the thrills that come with the change of tempo.
Trying something new for the first time is always exhilarating. Henry Miller says in his book Black Spring:
“The dreamers dream from the neck up, their bodies securely strapped to the electric chair. To imagine a new world is to live it daily, each thought, each glance, each step, each gesture killing and recreating, death always a step in advance. To spit on the past is not enough. To proclaim the future is not enough. One must act as if the past were dead and the future unrealizable. One must act as if the next step were the last, which it is. Each step forward is the last, and with it a world dies, one’s self included. We are here of the earth never to end, the past never ceasing, the future never beginning, the present never ending. The never-never world which we hold in our hands and see and yet is not ourselves. We are that which is never concluded, never shaped to be recognized, all there is and yet not the whole, the parts so much greater than the whole that only God the mathematician can figure it out.”
It shapes your life in ways you never thought imaginable, and adds a flair that permits your mind to comprehend everything differently. Traveling to new parts of the world can alter your perspectives. Witnessing wonders of nature allows you to see the beauty of all around you. Talking to a variety of people permits you to bypass your previously limited psyche. Seeing and experiencing new places, people, and ideas will pry open your mind and connect the dots. It will allow you to understand ideas you never could have previously fathomed.
You aren't going to find what you truly love to do by sitting in your room on a Friday night, or sealing up precious time behind the anxious boundaries you habitually put up. Break free from those boundaries that you have set for yourself, and hop out of your comfort zone. Some of my best and favorite memories came from events or things that I felt anxious about. Our anxiety holds us back when something may seem foreign to us, and not necessarily because it is detrimental. Take a deep breath and create a moment of courage.
Do what you've been dying to do. It may open up the door to something that will completely, and positively, change your life. The unknown can hold the most beautiful ideas and adventures. It’s your purpose to go and find them.
