Sugarcoat

A bad habit to fall into is the routine of sugar-coating serious subjects. Masking a problem into something smaller is no way to deal with issues. Rather, a realistic and honest approach is not only the best way to deal with these troubles, but also the fastest way. It’s best to analyze the issues you deal with in an effective way, with the goal of solving your problems rather than avoiding them. In my other article, Exacerbate, I have written about this in a similar way.

The greatest truth is honesty, and the greatest falsehood is dishonesty.
— Abu Bakr

Sugarcoating your problems will only further complicate them. The definition of the word ‘sugarcoat’ means to  make something superficially attractive or acceptable. That just proves how ineffective it would be to sugarcoat something that is already bad. Don’t try to justify something that needs to be addressed in a very honest and serious matter. Try to cut this sugarcoating out of your life completely, whether you are doing it to others, or even to yourself. In place, be honest in everything you do. You’ll start to notice that the more honest you become, the higher morale you adapt. This is because if you try to be honest about everything, you are going to avoid doing the things that you wouldn’t want others to find out about.

Be honest.

Don’t sugarcoat.

Be happy.

Language

Language is the most common and clear way for us to communicate. A lack of language would make nearly all sorts of collaborations impossible, which would leave all of us to fend for our own in a world that requires a wide variety of needs. Communication is key for any relationship to prosper, and neglecting to speak the same “language” as someone else is nothing but recipe for disaster. Each and every person has a uniquely created mind that hears, comprehends, and presents their ideas in completely different ways.

Words are singularly the most powerful force available to humanity. We can choose to use this force constructively with words of encouragement, or destructively using words of despair. Words have energy and power with the ability to help, to heal, to hinder, to hurt, to harm, to humiliate and to humble.
— Yehuda Berg

Misunderstandings are so common because people choose to assume the meaning of words and actions according to their own brain rather than understanding it from the perspective it came from. Simply questioning the motives behind someone’s actions is the easiest way to avoid unnecessary conflict and pointless quarrels. Communicating honestly and clearly is the most effective way to convey yourself to others. A relationship that lacks this honesty and mutual language is one that is doomed to fail. Just as you should tell others exactly how you feel, make others feel as if they can do the same for you. Communicate maturely with those around you, and enjoy the simplicity of life that begins to appear.

Speak the same language as others.

Communicate honestly.

Be happy.

Honesty

Nobody likes a liar. A chronic liar appears to others as unethical or inauthentic, and can cause stress for all people involved in their life.  Most of us don’t lie chronically, but all of us are dishonest at times. Lying is wrong. There really is no other way to put it. Lying is morally wrong. And ignorant. The only way to truly create and maintain a relationship (in any sense), is to have honesty. Avoiding the truth is nothing but a waste of time. Eliminate anxiety from your life by being honest to not only others, but also yourself. Being conscious of yourself is being honest with yourself. Putting off problems by lying and saying they don’t exist will resolve nothing. If anything, dishonesty can lead to further problems down the road.

Honesty is the fastest way to prevent a mistake from turning into a failure.
— James Altucher

Honesty is a desirable trait, and is becoming increasingly rare. Focus some of your attention on telling everything as it is rather than covering your mistakes up. Being honest will lead to more fulfilling interactions with others, and can leave a lasting impression of virtue and integrity. Regardless of whether your lying is colossal or white, the reverberations can, and will, be negative to others involved. Hold yourself to higher standards, and pick and choose your actions in a way that benefits everyone.

Have some integrity.

Own up to your mistakes.

Be honest.

Be happy.
